Take-home estimate

Estimate what is left from 2026 employment, pension, or RRIF income after federal tax, provincial or territorial tax, and employee CPP, QPP, EI, and QPIP. The math runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent or saved.

Figures last checked against official sources on .

Type of income Pension and RRIF income is not charged employee CPP, QPP, EI, or QPIP here.
How you enter the amount A monthly amount is multiplied by 12. This is one year, not one pay period.

Age band Used only for the OAS recovery line and the GIS cutoff check. It does not add the age amount.

What this estimate includes

It taxes the amount you type as if that were your only taxable income for 2026. Each rate applies up to the published bracket. The only non-refundable credit is the basic personal amount, multiplied by the lowest rate. Federal and Yukon amounts shrink between $181,440 and $258,482. Manitoba's amount shrinks between $200,000 and $400,000.

For employment income it subtracts the employee CPP contribution, or QPP in Quebec, including the second additional contribution. It also subtracts employee EI. In Quebec it uses the lower EI rate and adds QPIP. Pension and RRIF income skips those four.

In Quebec, federal tax is reduced by the 16.5% abatement of basic federal tax. Quebec tax uses Revenu Québec brackets and the $18,952 basic amount.

In Ontario it adds the surtax and the health premium, then subtracts the basic $300 tax reduction. Dependants are not counted, so the reduction is not increased.

From age 65 it also shows an OAS recovery estimate and a single-person GIS cutoff check. Neither one changes the take-home number. The recovery uses the OAS clawback calculator rules. It treats your typed amount as 2026 net world income. Recovery would come off OAS from July 2027 to June 2028. The 2026 upper limits are still estimates. The OAS amount uses the current quarter's maximum for a full pension with no deferral, so the full-clawback line can differ from canada.ca by a few thousand dollars.

What it leaves out

Payroll tables can differ. They round some brackets, and in 2026 they use a mid-year catch-up for British Columbia (6.14% instead of 5.6% on the first bracket) and Newfoundland and Labrador ($15,000 instead of the $13,094 basic amount). This page uses the return rates and the $13,094 amount. A lump-sum RRIF withdrawal can also be withheld at 10%, 20%, or 30%, which is not this annual estimate.

Questions

Is this the amount on my paycheque?

No. It is a one-year estimate using 2026 return rates. A paycheque uses payroll tables, which can round brackets and, in 2026, catch up a mid-year change in British Columbia and Newfoundland and Labrador. It also depends on your claim code and pay frequency.

Which credits are included?

Only the basic personal amount. Ontario also has its surtax, health premium, and the basic $300 tax reduction. Spouse, children, disability, age, pension income, and employment credits are not included.

Why does Quebec look different?

Quebec sets its own income tax. Federal tax is cut by a 16.5% abatement. Employees pay QPP instead of CPP, a lower EI rate, and QPIP. The Quebec deduction for workers is not applied, so Quebec tax can look a bit high.

Is the OAS clawback taken off the take-home amount?

No. Take-home is the typed income minus tax and payroll deductions. OAS recovery is a separate line. It is an estimate of tax that would reduce OAS later, and only if the typed amount were your net world income. Net world income includes OAS and other income. It is not the same number as salary.

Is this official?

No. It is an unofficial estimate for education, not advice, and not from the CRA, Revenu Québec, or Service Canada. Your return, your pay statement, and your benefit letter are what count. Figures can change.
